CEDRIC easily moves your Legacy ADABAS* Data to a new Relational Platform

CEDRIC The Cedric Data Migration Workbench combines its highly sophisticated source code models with legacy system metadata to automatically generate data extract with programs and bulk load scripts without any manual coding. The generated programs and scripts are used to rapidly extract the data from your legacy system and populate the target database of your choice.
The Problem
  • Your organisation has legacy applications residing on an aging hardware platform, but you need to retain access to the legacy data for the foreseeable future.
  • This legacy platform is expensive to maintain, and runs a proprietory software environment that is difficult to access with 3rd party tools.
  • You are looking at building a replacement end-user application, such as a web-based system with a relational database, but only part of the historic data is required in the new system.
  • You have looked at the cost of employing a team of programmers to build custom software to extract all the legacy data, and another team to build a repository and enquiry tool suitable for end-user access to this data. This option is looking very expensive.

The Solution Southern Cross Computing (SCC) has significant experience in migrating legacy ADABAS* data to relational databases.
As a result of this, we have built CEDRIC - The Complete Extract, DataLoader, Reports and Inquires Coder; a product that cuts many thousands of dollars from the cost of performing the data migration process. Our product combines the metadata from the legacy system with sophisticated source code models to automatically generate:
  • The extract routines to pull all of your data out of the existing system.
  • The database table definitions and loader scripts to bring the extracted data into a relational database such as Oracle** or SQL Server***.
  • The web-based query mechanism in the development environment of your choice such as Microsoft's Active Server Pages.

Solid Technology: The CEDRIC workbench produces source code in a format suitable for directly processing in the target environment. - there is no reliance on unproven or "bleeding edge" technology.
For example, to extract data from an ADABAS database, CEDRIC merges a Natural source code model with the results of the imported Natural Data Definition Modules to produce a suite of Natural programs.
SCC has already undertaken projects using the CEDRIC workbench technology to port legacy financial data from mainframe and Unix ADABAS environments to relational databases.
The source code models used by the CEDRIC workbench are very flexible and can be adapted for each data migration project. Once a code model is modified, the re-generation process is straightforward and immediate.
New code models can be built to suit new technologies or unusual technical environments
Solution Overview: #Extract #Inquiry #Loader #Legacy #CodeModel
Legacy System Data Definition Data definition of your legacy system will be used as input into CEDRIC to generate data extract routines specific to your installation.
Cedric Code Models The key component of Cedric is its generic code models. These models are used in conjunction with the Data definition of your legacy system to generate extract and loader programs. This alleviate labourious and costly hand coding and testing effort.
Legacy Data Extract Routine These are data extract routines generated by CEDRIC. They are used to pull all of your data from the existing legacy system ready to be loaded to the target database.
Relational Database Loader These are the loader programs that are used to load the target database with the data extracted from the earlier step. The data on the target system will be converted and formatted according to the newly defined target database definition.
Inquiry tool CEDRIC provides web-based query mechanism to your archive or target database in the development of your choice such as Active Server Pages(ASP) or PHP or JSP etc..
